Carlos Morris, an athletic wing, is in the sights of the St. John’s staff as they continue to build a 2012 recruiting class.
The 6’6″, 175 pound shooter from Jacksonville, Florida possesses a unique combination of size/athleticism and shooting/handling. He can hit a fair amount of outside shots, while also taking pressue off of a point guard as a backup ball handler.
This ball handling can cause a problem at points as well as Morris finds himself shooting too quickly and playing more of a point position. A positive change for him would be to utilize his large athletic frame by giving up the ball at points and heading to the offensive boards. If he can channel that raw athletic abilitiy, watch for Morris to improve as a defensive player along the lines of Sir’Dominic Pointer.
Morris and his point guard teammate, Ian Baker, both de-committed from South Carolina late last year following commitments in August.
Tony Chiles watched Morris play within the last week as head coach Steve Lavin continues to look to shore up this year’s recruiting class as the spring signing period approaches.
The product of Arlington Country Day School has garnered interest from Providence, Cincinnati, Georgia, and Miami in addition to St. John’s and South Carolina.
