Malik Stith has decided to withdraw from the basketball team, lowering the already short rotation of player from 7 to 6. Stith will still be attending St. John’s, he plans on working as a student assistant. The hope coming into the season was that Stith, the only remaining player from the Norm Roberts era, would be a leader of the team. But at this moment it appears Malik Stith needs to do what is best for him and his loved ones, as he mentioned in an earlier statement.
“Coach Lavin and I have met over the past couple of days about my future, Right now I feel that I need to do what is best for my family.”
Coach Lavin also commented on the Stith decision.
“For personal reasons Malik has chosen to no longer participate as a member of our basketball team. Beginning next week he will instead take on a role as a student-assistant and continue working toward completing his St. John’s degree.”
Stith had been averaging 2.6 points per game this while not really getting too many minutes. The decision comes as a surprise to most and the Storm will have to go with just a 6 man rotation tonight against Cincinnati.
We wish Malik Stith all the best in his pursuit of his degree and also hope he will continue to be an integral part of the St. John’s community.
