A 6’8″, 215 power forward, Christopher Obekpa, knows how to block shots.  The Nigerian born player currently resides in Centerreach, Long Island, playing for Our Savior New American School and is ranked 91 on the ESPNU Top 100 list. He has tremendous instinct and timing, making up for his lack of an offensive game with defensive prowess.  Obekpa is another Lavin swingman prototype, fitting the athletic and quick makeup of the team.  Like so many of his would-be counterparts on the Red Storm, Christopher can work his way up and down the court and his shot blocking ability will fit in perfectly with their full court defense.  While his offense, as mentioned earlier, needs work, he brings that garbage man mentality of put backs and layups.

Ed Cooley has been recruiting Obekpa hard for Providence to compliment Ricardo Ledo and Kris Dunn.  Other offers include St. John’s, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Seton Hall, Georgia Tech, and Memphis.  The future of St. John’s and Christopher Obekpa will undoubtedly become more clear following the Decision Day of Kyle Anderson on September 20th.
